Inspired by Her Majesty the Queen’s seventy years of service and leadership, the British Council will build a network of 100 young women leaders in five countries of South Asia (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) and the UK. Drawn from our wider alumni network, impressive young women leaders from across our work in arts and education will benefit from training, mentorship and the chance to connect and collaborate. Mentoring support will be provided to these women leaders so that they can seek professional guidance and planning their leadership journey and develop innovative ideas to address global challenges affected women and girls, and other vulnerable groups in their local communities.

Virtual Events

Celebrating 70 years of Her Majesty’s leadership by supporting inspiring leaders, promoting women and girl’s education and creating life-long connections with the UK, public virtual events will be hosted in the region and the UK, focusing on building momentum towards official Jubilee events and festivities, engaging high profile individuals and gender equality advocates to commemorate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

By March 2022, the project aims to:

  • Hold Inaugural event for the project participants from South Asia and the UK (end Jan 2022)
  • Hold a public event on international Women Day virtually, that aims to bring together a range of external stakeholders representing academia, media, civil society, artists, public and private sectors to initiate conversations that are cross-regional and with UK on gender equality, women leadership, and empowerment. (8 March 2022)
  • Hold closing ceremony for the project participants from South Asia and the UK (June 2022).
