The Open Door Centre exists to make a positive difference in the lives of adults with learning disabilities, enabling our members to achieve their highest potential. We do this by providing a range of activities within a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment, and members are involved in every level of decision making about the running of the Centre. Members are encouraged to be independent adults, understanding their rights and choices, in order to become respected, confident, valued members of society.

The Open Door Centre is organising a Community Choral Festival which will take place on Sunday 12th June 2022 at the Swindon Bowl in Town Gardens. The purpose of the festival is to showcase the diversity of talent in Swindon, providing a family day of music in the town’s iconic venue, and what better way to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee, than an event organised by a group which received one of the first Queen’s Awards for Voluntary Service (in 2011).

There is no charge for choirs to perform and no charge for the audience to attend. There will be food on sale – hot dogs, burgers, tea, coffee and cake – and a licenced bar.

We wish to organise a diverse cultural event of local choirs which will enable smaller and newer groups to have the opportunity to perform in a unique setting; the 1930s Old Town Bowl. We are also offering a singing workshop prior to the event run by local Natural Voice practitioners. The event is being organised by The Open Door Centre and will give the members, who are adults with learning disabilities, educational opportunities including stewarding, catering, and general event management, as well as a performance opportunity for the choir, and the chance to demonstrate through artwork their enthusiasm for the jubilee.
