Diss Museum will re-open, on Saturday 12 March, with a re-creation of the royal visit of 1866. At that time the Prince & Princess of Wales came through part of the town on their way to stay with a local dignitary. We will see the couple return, as Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, about 1909. They will arrive in an open-topped vintage car, to be welcomed by the Mayor in role. There will be a reading of Tennyson’s Alexandra poem, the Queen will speak, there will be prizes for the best Edwardian costumes; and the King will open the museum. The museum will be royally decorated; and there will be musical entertainment. This will be the town’s first event of the Platinum Jubilee year.
