‘Happy and Glorious is a celebratory civic-pride project marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It will bring together 7 diverse communities/community groups from across Newcastle under Lyme and Stoke on Trent who will each focus on a specific decade of the Queen’s reign in order to celebrate the past 70 years.
These celebrations will create a legacy event in each community and illustrate the key concepts of ‘Past (who were were), Present (who we are) and Future (where we want to be)’. Running through each of the celebratory themes will be a focus on green solutions, demonstrating the ‘Seed of Change’ that each community will commit to. A number of communities who we work with have expressed exciting and engaging ideas including Community Parades using recycled materials for making banners and puppets which celebrate each decade; Songs, Dance and Drama activities created with schools and community groups will bring together all of the ideas from across the decades to create a celebratory community performance. This showcase gala event will bring all 7 communities together at the New Vic Theatre with an audience of community members, guests and project partners and out in 7 community settings over the Jubilee Weekend. The legacy element of Happy & Glorious is the ‘Seeds of Our Future’ a green legacy of planting and growing which will see Food Glorious Food Harvest Festival/Community Autumn Picnic community events.
– Phase 1 activities will be open access community workshops across all 7 areas to explore the various decades’ themes and develop the ‘Past Present and Future’ ideas.
– Phase 2 community groups will collaborate leading to a gala event at the New Vic Theatre, an exhibition and community carnival events on the Jubilee Weekend in June 22.
