The Mercury’s Best of British Jubilee Family Tea Party invite local families to the Colchester for a fun filled day of outside activity of community performances, craft activities, face painting, story-telling and dance and singing workshops outside the recently re-furbished Mercury Theatre, and hosted by our regular Pantomime Dame, Antony Stuart Hicks.
With the theme around the Queen’s Jubilee and strong female role models, we are inviting local community groups to perform at the Mercury Theatre’s newly completed piazza area to perform to local residents, visitors and their friends and families right in the centre of Colchester as well as taking part in dance and singing workshops. A real chance to come together and create a celebratory shared experience in a fun relaxed setting! Not only will we have the community groups, we will invite high quality dance and music performers to entertain and invovle the public with the best of British music across the decades.
As well as the entertainment happening on the main stage area on the piazza, we will have characters roaming the ground from Footprints Theatre Company inviting you to participate in a ‘memory washing line’ where people can display your memories of living in Colchester for the last 70 years in a visual site-specific display outside the theatre.
A craft station will be set up suited specifically for those younger families in Colchester. This will offer children the chance to create a peg puppet character female super-hero! Maybe it’s the Queen, maybe it’s their favourite TV character or maybe it’s their mum or grandma? There will be staff on hand to help children and their families using upcycled materials from the Mercury’s costume department and turn it into something fun to take away as a keepsake.
