As well as representing the community to the local authority, Turriff and District Community Council facilitates a wide range of activities which promotes the well-being of our community. It brings local people together to help make things happen, and protect and promote the identity of our community. The Community Council advises, petitions, influences and advocates numerous causes and cases of concern on behalf of our local community. Here are some examples of our work:
• carry out projects to enhance their community for all types of citizens such as elderly, single mothers, minority groups, youth etc
• conduct local surveys
• campaign on local issues
• organise community events such as local galas
Our Platinum Jubilee Beacon Event on the 2nd June will encompass a parade made up of Turriff Pipe Band, Youth Organisations and members of the Community who will assemble at the Crown Street Car Park, Turriff at approx 9p.m. and then head down into the Haughs, Turriff and congregate at the Turriff Show Ring where the Jubilee Beacon will be lit at the specified time. The Piper (from Turriff Pipe Band) and the Bugler (from Turriff Silver Band) will then play their pieces of music at 9.35pm and 9.40p.m. respectively and the Beacon will be lit at 9.45p.m. accompanied by a rendition of the ‘Song for the Commonwealth’ by a local singer.
