Pittington Community Association will be celebrating the Platinum Jubilee on Thursday 2nd June with an afternoon of family entertainment at Pittington Village Hall. There will be a 1950s vocalist, Pittington Brass Band, singing from Pittington Primary School and poetry from Durham Area Youth. The Singing Elf Choir will provide children’ s crafts and singing. As well as food and drink from Geordie Lamp Mobile Bar, Canny Pizza, Street Coffee Co and the Little Ice Cream Co there will also be a climbing wall, children’s roundabout and Wurlitzer organ. An exhibition of photographs and memories will show what life was like in High and Low Pittington and Littletown at the time of the Coronation, and the children can take part in a crown and fancy dress parade.
In the evening a Beacon will be lit on Pittington Village Green, with music from Pittington brass and food and soft drinks available in the Village Hall car park. Although this beacon is on the green for health and safety reasons, Pittington Hill was a beacon hill, and the Queens Coronation was marked by a beacon being lit there in 1953.
