On Thursday evening at 9:45 pm we will be celebrating the lighting of the Queen’s platinum jubilee beacons with a proclamation, bugle call, the singing of the Song for the Commonwealth and the lighting of our very own Thurstonland beacon.
Another event will be a Scarecrow Trail with as many families, groups, individuals or businesses as possible making scarecrows and displaying them in their gardens or public spaces over three days. Scarecrows will need to be in place on Friday morning and remain there, weather permitting, until Sunday evening at 4:00 pm. Letters will be fixed to certain scarecrows which can be unscrambled into a winning word. Answers should be emailed to the TVA and prizes will be awarded. The details of the trail, map and hints about making a scarecrow will be available from the TVA Facebook page and on notice boards. The theme of the scarecrow festival is the Jubilee and villagers should choose a significant moment from the Queen’s 70 year reign (eg Coronation, Moon Landing, Great Train Robbery, Royal Weddings, Channel Tunnel Opening etc.)
To complete the celebration weekend we will be holding a Big Jubilee Tea on the Rec. on Sunday June 5th. Starting at 1:30 pm there will be a children’s entertainer and free refreshments. The event will finish with a drone photograph of as many villagers as possible assembled in the Rec area. This is scheduled for 4:30pm.
