We will be holding a number of events, starting a week before the Jubilee weekend and culminating in a weekend of activities between 2 and 5 June. The events are organised by many of the voluntary organisations within Purley and we aim to bring together our whole community, young and old, to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Events include a scarecrow festival and treasure hunt, sporting activities put on by the village cricket, football and bowling clubs, a historic exhibition, humorous talk, afternoon tea and fashion show, play, concert and disco. On the Sunday, there will be a thanksgiving service and a big lunch across the village.
The largest single attended event will likely be the Goosecroft Extravaganza on Thursday 2nd June. There will be rides and children’s activities, a climbing wall, live theatre and puppetry, animals, stalls and crafts, food stalls and refreshments, live music and a Mad Hatter’s tea party for children.
We will be producing a special souvenir programme of the events which will be on sale from 9th April. This also looks back to the Coronation and past Jubilee celebrations. Nearer to the event dates, a shorter free programme will be distributed to all households in the village.
