Gatton Park in Reigate, Surrey, will celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a family picnic and commemorative activities in the beautiful ‘Capability’ Brown parkland.
Visitors on Sunday June 5 will be able to enjoy their own hampers on the famous parterre, in the Japanese Garden or by the lakeside, or purchase cake, refreshments or ice-creams in Gatton Hall.
HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey Michael More-Molyneux will be a special guest, meeting some of the volunteers working tirelessly to restore Gatton Park to its former glory. During his visit, Mr More-Molyneux will formally reopen Gatton’s newly repaired pond. Built in 1912, the centrepiece of the historic rock garden has undergone major renovation after leaking for many years.
There will be a range of activities and games to enjoy during the afternoon. A street party-style craft table will be set up outside Gatton Hall so children can join in various activities, including making and decorating bunting to dress the front of Gatton Hall. For adults there will be music in the hall reflecting the time the Queen has reigned, alongside displays showing how Gatton Park has evolved during Her Majesty’s 70-year reign.
Gatton park is being restored by the Gatton Trust and is home to the Royal Alexandra and Albert School. All income from this and other events supports the care and conservation of the heritage estate and the learning and community programmes.
